Learning H.O.W. to Age

  • Wellness Center 3608 Springhurst Boulevard Louisville, KY, 40241 United States (map)

Learning H.O.W. to Age focuses on the psychosocial aspects of health, namely mental flexibility, physical perception and sensory and spatial awareness, while building healthy social connections and camaraderie.

The Program is a 10 week program meeting 60-90 minutes once a week. The age range is generally 65-80 with modifications made as needed. General health, stamina and mobility are the best determinations for participation.

The first meeting will consist of a baseline assessment of skills, and an introductory lesson. The following 9 weeks will follow the lessons in the workbook and the 10th and final meeting will be a re-assessment of skills developed. Upon completion, participants will show improvement in one or more of the tested areas. A report documenting the results will follow within 15 days.

Angie Dortch developed this program in response to the growing number of active, aging adults and the statistics that support wellness as a valid response to aging. She holds an MFA from the University of Louisville, is the mother of two adult children and the primary caregiver for her own aging parent. The validity of this program has been documented and parameters for success developed with assistance from an R.N. and a PhD. in neurology.
