A Taste of Yoga 2015 Schedule

These classes will be held at Rainbow Blossom Highlands/Gardiner Lane. Please see events page for additional info. All of the classes listed here are FREE. Space is limited; first come, first served. BYOM - Bring Your Own Mat. Yoga mats are available for purchase at the Highlands market.

FREE! Samples of Fire Cider!

To the base of Certified Organic apple cider vinegar, we've added whole, raw, Certified Organic oranges, lemons, onions, ginger, horseradish, habanero pepper, garlic and turmeric. We let this mixture steep for 6 weeks at room temperature, to preserve the living vinegar culture and delicate flavors of the ingredients. Lastly, we blend a generous helping of raw wildflower honey into the mix. The result is potent but balanced, offering layers of sweet, tart and spice.

Sunday 2/15

1pmFamily Yoga

Bridget Dewson | All ages and fitness levels! | FREE | Space is limited; first come, first served.
Bring the whole family for some play time. We will be moving and shaking and, of course, doing some fun yoga, too. It’s the perfect way to spend time as a family. This class is about sharing joy and laughter with your family and friends. No experience with yoga is necessary - anyone can join in the fun! If you have a mat, please bring it.

3pm – Therapeutic Flow Yoga

Lauren McGrath | All levels welcome! | FREE| Space is limited; first come, first served.
In this vinyasa-styled class we’ll hone in on integrating mindful presence and breath with transitions into and out of poses. This class is appropriate for all levels, but previous exposure to yoga and general knowledge of the poses will be helpful.

Monday 2/16

9:30am – Core Strength Vinyasa Flow Yoga

Justin Weutcher | A basic understanding of yoga poses is encouraged. | FREE | Space is limited; first come, first served.
This class will help you discover how to use your Deep Core Lines along the skeleton to make all of your poses more possible as you keep your body healthy for years of yoga to come, developed through a synthesis of styles created by Sadie Nardini and Desi Springer. Break the habit of moving only from the outer body and loading layers of tension onto yourself. Get more benefit in less time by drawing inward and honoring the natural curves of the spine to seek, and find, your inner strength!

This slow flow will challenge you and restore you leaving you centered from the inside out. A movement based practice that turns your awareness inward recognizing strength, beauty & grace.

Prenatal Yoga is an amazing way to gain strength, endurance and peace in order to prepare for labor, birth and the postpartum years. Prepare your body, mind and spirit to move through the transition into motherhood with more ease, less physical pain and an increased sense of confidence!

This power vinyasa yoga class is inspired by the Baptiste Power Yoga sequence, Journey into Power. You will flow, sweat, strengthen and breathe as we move through the power yoga flow. This class allows you to work at your own level while incorporating variations and modifications.

Toddlers have cabin fever? Join Denise for some fun yoga play, music, and creative movement. Appropriate for toddlers through kindergarten-aged children with parent.

Yin Yoga is a complementary yoga practice to the more dynamic and invigorating Yang Yoga. Class will begin with a yin focus targeting the deep, dense connective tissues of the body, with a focus the hips, pelvis, lower back, and knees.  Poses are held for longer periods of time (generally 3-5 minutes) and awareness is brought to sensations in the body.  The final 30 minutes of class will be a power vinyasa sequence that will challenge the body physically as you build strength, balance and flexibility .  This class offers the perfect combination of the passive and the powerful aspects of yoga.

Lionflow Yoga’s Flow One + class is an intermediate class that can be adjusted to accommodate all levels of students. It is focused on how to build the strength of breath, motion, and stillness to help you learn how to safely deepen inversion, compression, and stretching poses. It is the mission of Lionflow Yoga to help you learn to safely lean deeper into the optimal capacity of your body & mind .

Slow mindful movements give your body time to relax and open up in each pose. We will begin with meditation and end with a relaxing savasana. Kindness is the theme - rest, relax, let go of tension.

4:30pmSridaiva Yoga

Step forward into a new conversation of modern posture. Adopting the new “Bowspring”alignment developed by Desi Springer and John Friend, this class will guide you to find a lightness, levity, and freedom in both your body and mind. Using a suspension technique supporting joints with buoyant space, this method uses holistic integrity with positive tension; the entire structure is held in ‘tensegrity’ with grace and ease. Great for brand new students beginning their yoga journey and continuing practitioners looking to expand their understanding to the potential of which the amazing human body is capable.

Gentle yoga for Seniors is the perfect practice for those with injury, illness, are new to yoga or simply want a relaxing practice. Anusara is a unique approach to hatha yoga where the attitude and spirit of the heart powerfully blends with the biomechanical alignment of the body for balanced energetic action. This class will be therapeutic for those dealing with chronic pain/stiffness or acute injuries and those desiring a slow/gentle practice. Come learn how Anusara yoga can help you heal and feel better!

Skanda Yoga is an alignment-based power vinyasa style created by Ken von Roenn, who is originally from Louisville and graduated from Yoga East’s teacher training program with honors in 2002. Named for Skanda, the protector of the celestial realm, this yoga invokes the warrior spirit for a challenging, inspiring, and transformational practice and sets a physical and spiritual intention that aligns with nature’s cyclical patterns. Each Skanda Yoga class is a unique exploration of asana.

9:30am - Coregeous® Ball Yoga

Did you know you don’t have “low abs?” In this class we will use the Yoga Tune Up® Coregeous® to massage and activate the deepest tissues of your core and begin to awaken Mula Bandha, the yogic root lock which activates the tissue of your pelvic floor. We will enliven our entire core structure while broadening our view of “ripped abs” to envision the powerhouse of our body covered with a corset and booty shorts! We will investigate the variety of tissue that support the mid-line of the body including but not limited to your transversus abdominis, adductors (inner thighs), pelvic floor, and gluteal muscles. You will leave this class able to integrate these tissue in movement be that yoga asana, athletics, dance, or everyday activities.

12 NoonBowspring Yoga

The body has curves, and the Bowspring is all about learning how powerful and healthy they are for you. Bowspring classes combine yoga-inspired poses with dynamic movements and an uplifting conversation into a non-vinyasa based class. You will learn it’s alignment and new poses through a playful spectrum of twists, side bends, back bends, forward bends, and going upside down while learning how to maintain the shape of the Bowspring. It’s physically therapeutic yet challenging. You will feel the difference!

5pmCaregivers Yoga

Do you feel constantly wiped out after your work day as a service professional (teacher, nurse, social worker, massage therapist, etc...)? Are you struggling with caring for an adult family member, all while trying to raise a family of your own? Are you an activist in the community who feels hope slipping away sometimes when change seems so slow? If so, this class is for you! Unfortunately, we’re doing ourselves and the ones we love a huge disservice when we neglect our own self care. We end up sick, depressed, anxious, and sometimes incapacitated to the point we can no longer care give. Enjoy an hour of tending to your soul, so you can take better care of those in your charge. Learn easy tips to incorporate these simple yoga practices into your daily life. You deserve this!

1pm – Rocket Vinyasa Yoga

A vinyasa class based on the Ashtanga series suitable for the adventurous beginner, intermediate or advanced student. We’ll flow through a series to work on your strength, flexibility and balance. Options will be given to go upside-down. Modifications are always encouraged.
